Imperial Academy of Arts. The Imperial Academy of Arts was founded by the Empress Elizabeth in 1757. The building was built by the Empress Catherine the Great in 1764-88. The Russian Geographical society is the oldest scientific organization in Russia. It is founded in 1845 by the Emperor Nicholai I.
